Combining Paper Tole & Faux Cloisonne

Have you ever tried Paper Tole or the Faux Cloisonne technique with stamp images? Well, I combined both techniques on this card. Now what to call it....Paper Tolisonne maybe?

Paper Tole is also known as three-dimensional decoupage. It is the art of handcrafting three-dimensional pictures from flat prints by cutting and assembling pieces of paper layered onto an image until a three-dimensional version of the image emerges.

In jewelry, cloisonne is a type of enameling in which the colors are separated by thin metal ribbons or wires to maintain the pattern and keep the melting colors from running together. Paper crafters create a "faux" cloisonne by stamping the same image on different colors of paper. Then cutting the colors from the different stamped images to reassemble as a single image. You've probably seen this done by stamping on magazine or catalog pages to create the image. I stamped my image on scraps of patterned scrapbook paper.
Step 1: Start by stamping your image in versamark or craft (pigment) ink on several different pieces of colored paper. Heat emboss with black embossing powder.
Step 2: Then cut the different colors as you want to use them from the different pieces.
Step 3: Then, using Stampin' Dimensionals between layers, re-assemble the image.
Step 4: You now have a three-dimensional, faux cloisonne image. A "Paper Toloisonne".

As you can see this technique works best with stamps that have open spaces. So take a look at your stamp collection and give it a try. It is such a cool look.

That is so cool, love the different papers used and the neat dimension it gives!
