Embossing Magic Episode 8: How to Create a Vintage Effect
It's has been over a month since I have had a chance to post another video tutorial in my series on heat embossing. Thanks for being so patient. In this video I demonstrate how to combine the emboss resist technique with acrylic paints, to create a vintage effect. Hope you enjoy.
Here's a closer look at the tags I created using this technique.
I cut the tag shape out of a scrap of matboard I had (using my Sizzix Big Shot.) Matboard is the board that framers use to mat photos or artwork. Sometimes you can buy scraps of matboard from a frame shop. If you don't have matboard, chipboard works very well for this technique.
Thanks for stopping by my "rubber room." I hope you see something here that inspires you. Please visit often. You can subscribe to my blog in the Feedblitz link below. And you are always welcome to email me with your questions and suggestions.
You are welcome to copy any ideas you see here. In fact, I encourage it. I just ask that you refrain from using exact copies for submissions for publication or design contests. My videos, however, are copyrighted to control where they are posted and to keep others from benefiting financially from my hard work and brilliant ideas (read tongue in cheek here.) Yes, someone was actually selling CDs copies of my tutorials on Ebay. While I was quite flattered that someone would find them good enough to be commercially valuable, my intention in producing them is to provide inspiration free of charge to my blog readers. Thank you for your understanding in this matter and for respecting my rights.

Gorgeous and looks so easy to do.. where does one buy the mat board or whatever your paper medium is? Thanks for sharing your talent!
Very nice look. I love to heat emboss and have done it many times. This will be something new to try.

TFS this video...is your craft mat like the silpat that is used for baking?
very cool, tfs!
Why couldn't you just use a heavyweight cardstock in black to start with?
Hi Betty,
Yes, you are right. You could start with black card stock. Using black paint though adds a "rustic" texture to your surface.
